Allergy-friendly school lunches
Primary schools in Waltham Forest in London are helping children with allergies feel included by featuring a weekly ‘Allergy-Friendly Days’ at school lunchtimes.

Allergy-Friendly Days
Waltham Forest’s campaign is believed to be the first time that allergy-friendly school menus have become a regular feature in a school lunch plan.
The 43 primary schools which use Waltham Forest Catering – the local authority’s in-house service – are served lunches that do not contain any of the 14 major allergens that are identified by food law as being the most potent and prevalent in causing food allergies.
So popular was the concept of allergen-friendly due to its inclusivity message that in addition to the weekly allergy-friendly day they have now introduced two Allergy-Friendly Days a week to the Spring Summer Menu 2024.
